The DK India Blog team were in the thick of brainstorming for a monthly theme for the photo contest, and the monsoon seemed the perfect choice. But when it finally came to it, “Chasing the Monsoon” proved quite the challenge, as the monsoon paid only erratic visits this year, raining in scattered bursts over the weekend or a few short hours during work. DK-ites, though, were up for the challenge. Chase the monsoon they did, and in came pouring photo entries for the month.
Our panel of judges went through all the entries, painstakingly analyzing the photographer's perspective as well every aspect of the image. We are delighted to share with you the top three winning photographs.
Winner: Pradeep Thapliyal
Judges' comments: The image truly captures the essence of monsoon – ironically without showing even a drop of water. The colour and composition are quite impressive too.
First Runner-up: Sayantani Chakrabarti
Judges' comments: The city and its sometimes volatile relationship with the rains is brilliantly captured here. The play of light along with the well-balanced framing is just the right combination.
Second Runner-up: Apurva Agarwal
Judges' comments: This graceful composition evocatively shows the beginning of new life during the monsoon. The lighting is perfect and lends the photograph brilliant colours.
Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you to each of the contributors! Coming soon is another interesting theme for our intrepid in-house shutterbugs. Until then, stay “focused”!
